In a saga of considerable daring, political manoeuvring and intrigue in the late 19th century, rival railway companies were engaged in a desperate battle to win custom - it culminated in the Railway Races to the North of 1895, from London to Aberdeen.
The Quest for Speed has persisted since then - through the 20s and 30s with the LNER and LMS battling it out with crack expresses like 'The Flying Scotsman', 'The Royal Scot', and 'The Coronation'. Today, Inter-City 125s and 'Electric Scots' are continuing that quest.
James Cameron, seasoned railway traveller in most countries of the world, boarded 'The Flying Scotsman', in this, the Golden Jubilee Year of the first non-stop run from King's Cross to Edinburgh, and invites you to join him on his journey north through 90 years of railway history into the High Speed Era.
