Stella and the Apes of Mount Asserick
Stella Brewer grew up amongst the animals of the Abuko game reserve in West Africa. She could not bear to see young chimpanzees - orphaned by poachers - condemned to a life behind bars. But young chimpanzees depend on their mothers for safety and emotional support for as long as eight years.
This is the extraordinary story of how Stella decided to become foster mother to four young chimps and went off to the forest to teach them the ways of the wild - a story of her courage, the affections and jealousies of her all-to--human children, and the adventures both comic and tragic that befell them. The second of 13 films featuring the re-discovered work of amateur cameramen and ' home-movie' makers of the 20s and 30s.
Introduced by James Cameron
Tonight we meet the Eades family from Birmingham. They made a film record of their lives in the 1930s, and 40 years later we can follow their fortunes, from courtship to the birth of their first child on the brink of World War Two.
How formally we dressed in those days, didn't we? No jeans and jumpers. We kept our hats on when we went out for the day.
