Gathering the fruits of summer, clearing crops and starting again. Under glass, seeds are sown to give colour and interest through the winter. East Lothian stocks, schizanthus, cinerarias are some of the flowering plants to be sown. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and melons need feeding, training and protection from pest and disease. In the vegetable plot a watch is kept for cabbage white butterfly caterpillars. Further sowings will be made of salad and root vegetables.
