There's "A Touch of Venus" on BBC2 at 8.0
There are thirteen twenty-minute monologues - in essence they're miniature plays - in A Touch of Venus. Entirely different in both content and form, their mood swings from black comedy to near-tragedy.
Such authors as J.B. Priestley, Terence Rattigan, John Mortimer and Frank Marcus found the idea of writing for the actress of their choice attractive, and the actresses all accepted the challenge with enthusiasm. Each writer develops his own theme the originality and skill.
The series introduces the work of Aldo Nicolaj, and Italian playwright. The people he creates aspire to freedom, peace, love and happiness - aspirations they never realise because society always interferes with their plans.
This is a rare opportunity for viewers to see the best actresses from the international theatre and film world. Edwige Feuillere and Genevieve Page from France, and Rosella Falk from Italy are making their first appearance on British television; Elisabeth Bergner, Lila Kedrova, and Mai Zetterling are already well known for their outstanding film performances.
Two well-known English actresses - Margaret Leighton and Irene Worth - are making an all-too-rare appearance on television, and the series spans the generations to include one of Britain's youngest international stars, Lynn Redgrave. The galaxy includes also three actresses well known on TV - Moira Lister, Fenella Fielding, and Megs Jenkins.
Rachel Roberts opens the series with a strong dramatic performance in a play specially written for her by Emlyn Williams. (Hal Burton)

A selection of musical milestones from the golden days of the silver screen.
Tonight: the 1952 production of With a Song in My Heart
Starring Susan Hayward as Jane Froman
with Rory Calhoun, David Wayne, Thelma Ritter
Written for the screen and produced by Lamar Trotti.

Tonight's film is based on the life story of American singer Jane Froman. It follows her career from her early radio success in 1930, through the war years when she suffered severe leg injuries in an air-crash, to her final triumph over illness. Susan Hayward gives a convincing performance as Jane Froman, and Miss Froman's own voice is used on the soundtrack for all the songs, which include such evergreen numbers as "Embraceable You," "Tea for Two," "Blue Moon," and the title song.
