Brian Priestley's six-part profile of the great American composer, bandleader and bassist Charles Mingus.
By 1957 Mingus had recruited trombonist Jimmy Knepper and drummer Dannie Richmond. Together with saxophonists Booker Ervin and John Handy , the Mingus Workshop recorded two classic jazz albums: Mingus Ah Urn and Blues and Roots. With contributions from pianists Roland Hanna and Horace Parian, writers Gary Giddins and Nat Hentoff, and Mingus himself.
From the Theatre Royal in Glasgow, Scottish Opera present their newest production, a collaboration between composer Sally Beamish and Scottish novelist Janice Galloway on the story of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. The opera focuses not on the monster itself but on the psychological journey that Mary Shelley travels in order to come up with this terrifying story. The opera is in two acts and is introduced by Sandy Burnett.
