Private Passions

on BBC Radio 3

Michael Berkeley talks to Australian satirist and novelist Kathy Lette , author of Mad Cows, Foetal Attraction, Altar Ego and most recently, Nip and Tuck. Her musical pilgrimage takes her from her origins as a surfer girl (courtesy of the Beach Boys), through her discovery of irony via Blossom Dearie and Noël Coward, to the music of Fanny Mendelssohn. Kathy Lette goes on to cast a feminist eye over Cosi Fan Tutte and Der Rosenkavalier before ending with Bessie Smith 's Kitchen Man. Repeated tomorrow 3pm
