The Rt Rev Desmond Tutu , preached to thousands of Welsh Christians at the invitation of the Council of Churches in Wales.
God's Family is a national ecumenical festival held at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Showground in rural Powys. Seminars, workshops, sports events and prayer-groups are a part of the day, but the highlight is this bilingual service. It provided an opportunity to hear one of today's foremost Christian leaders preach about the worldwide implications of belonging to the family of God. Six months after the overthrow of 'Baby Doc' Duvallier, Haiti is still a country in turmoil. Factional in-fighting divides the poorest population in the western world.
The Christian church played a large part in the removal of the regime. It now stands accused of carrying out a campaign of persecution against the traditional religion of the people: voodoo. Is this an attempt to remove the last traces of Duvallierism from Haiti, or cultural imperialism which threatens to crush the country's religious heritage? David Lomax enters the mysterious world of the voodooist to investigate these allegations.
