Heart of the Matter

on BBC One London

with David Lomax
Six months after the overthrow of 'Baby Doc' Duvallier, Haiti is still a country in turmoil. Factional in-fighting divides the poorest population in the western world.
The Christian church played a large part in the removal of the regime. It now stands accused of carrying out a campaign of persecution against the traditional religion of the people: voodoo. Is this an attempt to remove the last traces of Duvallierism from Haiti, or cultural imperialism which threatens to crush the country's religious heritage? David Lomax enters the mysterious world of the voodooist to investigate these allegations.
