From the South Downs.
Nestling in the Cuckmere Valley, on the eastern edge of the Sussex Downs, is the village of Alfriston. The annual village festival is a time when the locals enjoy themselves with a tug-of-war, wellie-throwing, river races and all the fun of the fair.
They end the day by singing their favourite hymns on the village green.
This year Christians from all over the South Downs are also taking Part. Many will be walking to the event, like pilgrims of previous ages who passed through Alfriston on their way to Canterbury.
Sally Magnusson meets villagers and pilgrims who choose their favourite songs of praise.
