From the South Downs.
Nestling in the Cuckmere Valley, on the eastern edge of the Sussex Downs, is the village of Alfriston. The annual village festival is a time when the locals enjoy themselves with a tug-of-war, wellie-throwing, river races and all the fun of the fair.
They end the day by singing their favourite hymns on the village green.
This year Christians from all over the South Downs are also taking Part. Many will be walking to the event, like pilgrims of previous ages who passed through Alfriston on their way to Canterbury.
Sally Magnusson meets villagers and pilgrims who choose their favourite songs of praise.
Shall we gather at the river? (Lowry); To be a pilgrim (Monks Gate); Fight the good fight (Duke Street); How comely the evening (Elgar); Fair waved the golden corn (Carlisle); Lord of the dance; The Lord's my shepherd (Crimond); Jerusalem (Parry).

Week by week as the events of the news unfold, moral dilemmas, controversies and questions are raised which cannot easily be compressed into the black and white summary of a bulletin or headline. But these questions of public and private morality affect us all and inflame passions and prejudices many of us would rather ignore or try to hide.
Reporter David Lomax looks at one of these issues, talks to those who ought to know and tries to discover what is at the 'heart of the matter'. Film editor MICHAEL ALOOF
