Ray Stubbs presents coverage from Sheffield as BBC co-presenter John Parrott picks up his cue to resume his first-round match against world number eight and Masters champion Paul Hunter. At this stage last year Parrott made an early appearance in the television studio after being defeated by Quinten Hann 10-5. Meanwhile Paul Hunter played his way to a semi-final place where he was knocked out in a close-fought battle by Ken Doherty. The first of the second-round matches begins this afternoon. Ray Edmonds, Clive Everton, Terry Griffiths, Dennis Taylor, Willie Thorne and John Virgo provide the commentary.

The last second-round place will be decided tonight as six-times world champion Steve Davis concludes his match with world number 20 Anthony Hamilton. Last year Davis put up a determined six-hour effort against eventual semi-finalist Stephen Lee , remaining level until the thirteenth frame before succumbing to a 10-6 defeat.
Anthony Hamilton promises to be anothertough first-round opponent Despite a series of setbacks, including breaking his wrist before the 2000/01 season, Hamilton achieved a world championship quarter-final place in 2002 and has earned a reputation as one of the best break builders in town.
