The second in an eight-part natural history of North America.
Confrontingthe Wilderness. In summerthe northern land now known as Canada swarmed with bitingflies and in winter it was a place of aching cold. To the first European explorers it was an unforgiving wilderness. This endless maze of forests and secret waterways was also home to innumerable beavers, lynx, otters and black bears, all with soft.thickfur. In the 17th century these lustrous pelts became a strong lure for exploration and exploitation. French and English traders competed for business with American Indian trappers and fought to survive in the icy wilderness, domain of the polar bear. Narrated by Alan Ereira.
