First of six programmes.
Tuscany and Lazio. Valentina Harris goes in search of dishes that bring back memories of her childhood in Tuscany and Rome. A little-known backwater of Rome yields an extraordinary style of cooking. The Lazio region provides the food - potato gnocchi with a luscious tomato sauce and chicken with rosemary and garlic - and the Delle Frate family provides the company for one of those idyllic outdoor Italian meals, bathed in soft evening light.

NEW A series exploring traditions and cultures in far-flung parts of the world. Eunuchs - India's Third
Gender. Kiran was castrated four months ago. His best friend Harish yearns to be a woman but has a wife and two children. Shardabai is the Empress of the Eunuchs. She preserves the courtly traditions of the eunuchs who once guarded the Maharaja's hareems. But today most eunuchs end up in the brothels of Bombay. Eunuchs are both man and woman in one body and granted the power to bless and curse. They have all survived the trauma of gender identity. This film shows how the 'third gender' still has an accepted place in India today. Director Michael Yorke
