Second of a six-part series about being black and European as 1992 approaches. Portugal. Black Portuguese have to fight to establish a foothold in their new society - women street-trading in fish, young people campaigning for extra schooling. Half the black population of 100,000 are suspected of being illegal immigrants. They find themselves exposed to manipulation and exploitation by employers who use them as cheap, illegal labour and relegated to the worst housing in the wooden shanty towns that surround Lisbon.

Jimmie and Phil love aggressive sports and leather and have been together for 37 years. Alex enjoys being camp and flamboyant but believes being black and gay is a political act.
