Is it possible to find Utopia in this world? Claudia Jones :
A Woman of Our Times
For over 20 years, Claudia Jones has remained an obscure legend within the Afro-Caribbean community. A victim of the McCarthy communist purges in America, she came to Britain in the 1950s, where she founded the West Indian Gazette, the first truly popular black newspaper, and started the Notting Hill Carnival.
Yet her achievements have gone largely unrecorded and her story has been passed on only by word of mouth. This film is the story of a remarkable life seen through the eyes of those who knew her in Britain and America. Director INGRID LEWIS

Nicholas Ray's directorial debut was this moving and poetic version of Thieves Like Us, a dark combination of gangster movie and love story.
