City at Sea
Seafaring is what established the City as a financial centre, and 200 years on the City is still the centre of the international shipping trade. But maritime centres overseas believe they can mount a serious challenge, and as our own merchant fleet continues to decline some say the City could become vulnerable. Women first filmed in the 60s tell the story of their lives over the past 20 years. Jill Woollaston
In 1966, Jill Woollaston was a consultant psychiatrist married to a Labour MP, Arthur Palmer , with two teenage daughters. She was an early feminist - one of the pioneers of the working woman, balancing the demands of career and family. Today, Jill, in her 70s, is retired. She is still happily married and still a feminist. She has five grandchildren. In this film, she looks back over her life, with the help of her family, and faces the prospect of growing old.
