Fifth of six programmes. Tommy's guest is pianist Tommy Flanagan, a major figure in the story of jazz. He has played with many great musicians including Coleman Hawkins, Sonny Rollins, John Coltrane and Ella Fitzgerald. The new young generation of soloists is sometimes accused of bypassing the 'standard repertoire' in favour of original material but with Tommy Flanagan's elegant accompaniment, Tommy Smith is perfectly at home with the hits of 50 years ago.
