An American Fightback If you go looking for an American presence in consumer electronics, it is hard to find. The Japanese have all but wiped it out.
Now the few manufacturers that remain are calling for co-ordinated action, led by the Government, to get back in the race.
The key to their strategy is a new role for the US government, providing not just finance, but what critics say amounts to planning. But they have political support. So is America, under
President Bush, on the verge of a new industrial policy, and how damaging would that be to the free market ethic here?

Peter Seabrook and Alan Titchmarsh look back over this year's Chelsea Flower Show. Visitors and exhibitors came from across the world to watch and provide four days of entertainment and the best blooms in the world. Many came in search of gold medals, many left disappointed, but they all made their mark on the Royal Horticultural Society's premier show.

Views of Photography with John Berger , Jean Mohr Concluding this series questioning the nature and practice of photography,
John Berger examines the notion of constructing a photographic poem.
Jean Mohr visits his friend Marcel, who herds his 50 cows on the high pastures of the French Alps. At Marcel's request Jean takes colour pictures and he considers his dilemma when photographing old people, alongside the insights that can be gained from self-portraiture. Together with John Berger he reflects on the human story behind
A Fortunate Man, their book about a country doctor, and Berger evaluates the results and discoveries of his photographic workshop held last June in Finland. Producer ANNA RIDLEY Director JOHN CHRISTIE

Mexican Grand Prix
With two wins out of three races the private battle between the McLaren drivers continues. In Mexico last year, Alain Prost led from start to finish with team-mate Ayrton Senna second.
Currently they are equal first in the Drivers World
Championship. But look out for Martin Brundle. He's the man in form and his fine drive for Brabham at Monaco means that all five of the British drivers have scored points this season. Commentators
