Norman Parkinson , an acknowledged master of high-fashion photography, is equally celebrated for his portraits of the rich and the beautiful. But recently Parks, as he likes to be called, agreed to do a pictorial essay on the Thames Valley, showing what has been preserved, what has been destroyed, and what is under threat from often mindless development.

Power in the Blood
Ten years ago, Vernon Oxford turned his back on the bright lights of Nashville and a life as a popular country singer, and gave himself to the Lord. Today, he is a gospel preacher in Franklin, Tennessee but his congregation extends beyond his own community in the southern states of America. He takes his mission to his spiritual cousins in Northern Ireland, who share the same fundamentalist Protestant beliefs. Tonight's film follows Oxford from Nashville to Belfast as he pursues his healing mission through the houses of God and of the Devil. He sings his songs of redemption in the streets, the churches and the drinking dens, and finally to the prision officers of the Maze. Power in the Blood is a passionate journey to the heart of the province and reveals a Northern Ireland that remains hidden from the cameras and news reports. Photography DAVID BARKER Editor SE MERRY
