3: When the Rocking Chair Gets You Does retirement mean being discarded by society? Or can it mean the start of a new life?
Northumberland pit electrician Alf Goodall , Bournemouth bank manager John Chinneck , and Concorde pilot Leo Budd , all face retirement but from different angles with a different outlook.
Reporter Bernard Falk follows ALF goodall down the pit on his last day to share the camaraderie which he will miss most; crosses to New York with leo BUDD flying the machine which is his obsession; and toasts JOHN CHINNECK when the great day finally arrives. He talks to Lord Soper who is still going strong at nearly 80; and Kathleen Gibberd , 84, who, thinks the old should be respected by society for their wisdom.

The Samurai from Twickenham The Soma Wild Horse Chase Narrator
Michael Dean
Michael Jay is an Englishman born, as he says, ' in the wrong place at the wrong time'. He's a 35-year-old airline pilot from Twickenham, whose obsessive interest lies on the other side of the world, in Japan. Having won his black belt in judo, he became deeply involved in the martial arts of that exclusive warrior class, the Samurai. For ten years he has practised the skills of sword and horsemanship.
Married into a Japanese family, he is now accepted by the descendants of the fighting horsemen of the Soma region as a Samurai himself -indeed, he has become the only foreigner to take part in The Soma Wild Horse Chase. It is an event that dates back 1,000 years to the days when the warriors rode out to round up the wild horses. Today the ' Chase ' continues the tradition of the great Samurai battles of centuries past.

Artists 1939-45
A series of seven programmes
Memories of World War II recalled by artists and illustrated by their paintings.
4: Sir Peter Scott At the outbreak of war Peter Scott followed his famous explorer father into the Royal Navy.
Already an established painter of wildlife, he quickly turned his talents to designing a camouflage scheme for destroyer escorts on the Atlantic convoys. Then in 1942 he was given commandof a flotilla of brand-new steam gunboats.
With the help of his paintings he vividly recalls the battles fought between the German E-boats and the little ships of Coastal Forces in the English Channel.

... of documentary The Rovers
1982/3 was Tranmere Rovers centenary season. They should have been over the moon. But by November they were a very sick parrot indeed. Everywhere soccer gates were dwindling. But when you have only 1,500 supporters and live in the shadow of Anfield, the defection of only a few can edge you nearer the Receiver.
To pay their debts they sold players. By selling players they lost even more supporters. It was a downward spiral. Twice they were to make their farewell appearance. Twice they were saved. Even today something could blow the final whistle on the centenary celebrations.
