starring Ronald Reagan
Patricia Neal , Richard Todd
Stationed in Burma, Cpl Lachlan McLachlan is unlucky enough to be wounded on the last day of the war. After an operation he is convinced that he is well again -but, in fact, he has only weeks to live. His fellow soldiers are assigned the task of helping ' Lachie ' through his last weeks, a task made difficult by his terse and unfriendly nature. In this moving drama that made the young Richard Todd a star, Ronald Reagan made his only appearance in a British film.

' It's a thousand pities that duelling is now illegal; it made people so much more polite,' said 69-year-old Col Maurice Willoughby , hurling himself at the fencing master of the London Fencing School. Other frustrations are worked out by pounding his kendo instructor over the head with a bamboo sword, demolishing a building with an iron ball, and ice dancing rather badly with a pretty girl.
