This is the fifth in a series of six conversations with some of the grand old master photographers of this century. Andre Kertész
André Kertfsz is regarded as one of photography's great pioneers. Cartier-Bresson said 'We all owe something to Kertesz', and Brassai ' Andr6 Kertfisz has two qualities which are essential for a great photographer- an insatiable curiosity about the world, about people and about life, and a precise sense of form.'
A poet among the photographers, Kertgsz's work goes back to almost the beginning of the century-70 years during which his freshness of seeing and his uncorrupted attitude to the world and his art have not diminished. Born in Budapest, he now lives in New York where this conversation was filmed.
A friend of Chagall, Mondrian and Colette, Kertesz talks to Peter Adam about the Paris of the 20s, his early life in Hungary and the bitter and long battle for acceptance in America.
