That's when Chay Blyth and Rob James finished the Observer/Europe 1 Transatlantic Yacht Race a day ahead of the cream of the world's racing yachts, taking just 14 days to cross what yachtsmen call 'The Big Pond'.

In the first of, three programmes about his life, Lord Brockway, better known as Fenner Brockway , life peer and former mp, describes to Donald MacCormick his early days as a young socialist, his two years' imprisonment during the First World War as a conscientious objector arid the real threat of revolution on the eve of war.
He recalls the General Strike of 1926 when he edited the TUC's British Worker in opposition to Winston Churchill's British Gazette, his return visit in 1927 to the land of his birth India - and his relatinnshin with Mahatma Gandhi.
