A series of six films in which English communities still look remarkably different from each other.

At the time of Domesday Book East Anglia was the home of half the yeomen of England, independent farmers who owned their own patches. Today some of those families are still there, like the Partridges, whose written family his story goes back to the early 1600s. The continuity seems unlikely to be broken, but with several sons and a daughter, John Partridge has his problems.
Brian Trueman looks at a family watershed against the background of the autumn ploughing, the winter lambing and; the summer harvest.

"Dead. All of 200 and something years. And still, each day, fresh yellow flowers. Buried, at this meeting of three ways. For if you should wake and rise, your ghost to be confused which road to take, by which to come back in, into the world - one road it seems you've found..."
