Careering into Science
What does the world of science look like through the eyes of the scientists of the future?
Horizon invited three boys and three girls aged 15 and 16, from widely different backgrounds, to make a three-week journey of exploration through science and technology in Britain. Given an entirely free hand, they decided to investigate everything from the most monotonous assembly-line work to advanced research in lasers and particle physics. They interview engineers, nurses, deep-sea divers, botanists, biochemists and airline pilots about lifestyles, motivations and money.
Like most teenagers they have had very little careers guidance, and some had hardly ever been away from home before taking part in this project. They show us from a fresh point of view what the scientific life is really like.

The Marble Horsemen
The Elgin Marbles, the sculptures from the Acropolis in Athens, are probably the most famous set of sculptures in the world. Their centrepiece, the Parthenon Frieze, is the major single monument of classical Greek art to have survived. It's unique. But despite centuries of close attention, nobody has yet satisfactorily decided what the frieze is for - or even what it's about. In this film, John Boardman , Lincoln Professor of Classical Art and Archaeology at Oxford, proposes a new and comprehensive explanation.

starring James Mason and Madhur Jaffrey
A Maharajah's daughter, living in a Bayswater flat, entertains her father's old tutor to an annual film show of royal home movies, shot during the 20s and 30s. Through pieces of old film the flamboyant private life of the Maharajahs is evoked. The ex-tutor wants to record an Indian past that he can never quite understand; the princess sees herself as a ' modern' woman. As they reminisce, a complete world of Anglo-Indian attitudes is explored in miniature.
