Horizon

on BBC Two England

Careering into Science
What does the world of science look like through the eyes of the scientists of the future?
Horizon invited three boys and three girls aged 15 and 16, from widely different backgrounds, to make a three-week journey of exploration through science and technology in Britain. Given an entirely free hand, they decided to investigate everything from the most monotonous assembly-line work to advanced research in lasers and particle physics. They interview engineers, nurses, deep-sea divers, botanists, biochemists and airline pilots about lifestyles, motivations and money.
Like most teenagers they have had very little careers guidance, and some had hardly ever been away from home before taking part in this project. They show us from a fresh point of view what the scientific life is really like.
