Doctor in the Zoo
For David Taylor a telephone call at any time of the day or night can mean a journey of just a few miles or thousands. However long the journey the end is always the same -to help a sick animal, be it a dolphin, gorilla, tiger or marmoset.
This film follows him for two weeks, looking over his shoulder at some of the fascinating ways that a zoo vet has of treating not only routine cases but the complex unknown diseases of the more exotic animals in our zoos and wildlife parks.

A music fantasy by Carl Davis to a text by John Wells
with Julian Littman as Orpheus, Joanna Carlin as Eurydice

This specially commissioned half-hour pop opera is the BBC's entry for the 1977 Salzburg Television Opera Competition.
Orpheus, whose music has the power to entrance his listeners, is here updated to the role of a busker in the London Underground. This version of the legend, in which his girl-friend, Eurydice, is pursued by an amorous commuter, unfolds amidst the tunnels, trains, lifts and escalators of a strange and distorted Underworld.Â

Written and produced by JOHN READ
The outstanding beauty of the Scottish landscape inspired a long tradition of fine painting. William McTaggart was born near Campbeltown in 1835. He discovered his own kind of Impressionism on the beaches of Kintyre.
In the 20th century his grandson Sir William MacTaggart used his own even freer interpretation of light and colour to express the dramatic moods of sea, cornfield and sky. Narrator
