A celebratory series of 13 programmes for Jubilee Year about craftsmen in Britain. 12: Bells
' Over the centuries there have been many hundreds of bell foundries in this country but today there are only two. I suppose in the entire world there are only something like six or seven bell foundries, and those are mostly in and around Europe.'
THE WHITECHAPEL BELL FOUNDRY has made some of the most famous bells in the world, including The Liberty Bell of America and Big Ben of London. Tonight's film shows the process of making a bell from moulding to casting and tuning, and features several of the craftsmen who make up this small firm which has been in existence in the East End of London for over 500 years.

Mr Universe , the Crazy Horse Girls de Paris, Yum Yum Shaw , superstars with police escorts, topless bathing beauties-the Cannes Film Festival still sometimes seems more like a circus than a trade fair. But for all that, film people find it an indispensable fortnight in their calendar. More buying, selling and setting up of movies takes place in the jostling corridors of the Carlton Hotel in the last two weeks of May than anywhere else the rest of the year. A report on the business and the ballyhoo.
