Starring Henry Fonda, Susan Strasberg
with Joan Greenwood, Herbert Marshall, Christopher Plummer

This film is the story of a dedicated young girl, Eva Lovelace, who comes to New York from a small town convinced that she has the rare talent and inner fire of a great actress. While making the rounds of the Broadway casting offices she brashly works her way into the office of Lewis Easton, a leading New York producer and her theatrical idol. Through him she meets Joe Sheridan, a play-wright, who is attracted to her. From these first encounters the poor little Cinderella sets out on her way to stardom.

Gordon Wilkins covers the motoring story of the week.

This week British Leyland unveil a replacement for the 1 1/2-litre Farina-styled saloons which have been the mainstay of family motoring in Britain for more than ten years. This long-awaited new model completes the range of front-wheel-drive cars which began with Alec Issigonis's original design for the B.M.C. Mini. Can this forward-looking formula survive in a Europe dominated by cars of conventional design from Fiat, Ford, and General Motors?
Wheelbase road-tests the new car in Portugal and questions British Leyland chairman Lord Stokes about its future.

Telfer, Moroney, Webb, Duckham, Fielding, Bonal and Campaes, John and Edwards - the names of the great try scorers of a fascinating season. A season which saw the eclipse of France who had ruled the Championship for the previous two years; saw the unexpected resurgence of the England XV; saw Ireland make their most determined efforts for nearly twenty years to win the Title and the Triple Crown, only to fall at the final hurdle and leave the way clear for that momentous match at Cardiff between Wales and England.
All these events feature again tonight in this review of the recent International season, which is introduced by Cliff Morgan and Andy Mulligan in the company of some of the men who made these matches so memorable.
Recorded at the Stoop Memorial Ground, home of the Harlequins Rugby Club

A series of film reports by Trevor Philpott

This is the power game. Not the battle for boardroom dominance-although that comes into it. Not the struggle for political control-although that is a part of it too. This is the story of the men, the machines, and the organisations which provide Britain's most vital raw materials-fuel and electrical power.

Four giants are in the ring-the National Coal Board, biggest employer of labour in Britain; the oil industry with its empires stretching from Kuwait to Alaska; the Gas Boards with their North Sea bonanza; and nuclear power, now supplying a tenth of our electricity and growing so fast that it may dominate all the rest within half a lifetime. The plans and calculations made by these industries now will affect the prices we pay for everything for the next twenty years. Have they got their sums right?

Strumpet City
James Plunkett's novel of Dublin life at the beginning of the century, published this week, was ten years in the writing. It is tipped as the likely bestseller of the year, if not of the century, as the publishers claim; and advance sales have already set new records for a first novel.
Release filmed Plunkett in his native Dublin and the Wicklow Mountains, and talked to others involved to discover what it is that has given Strumpet City the smell of success.
