A series of film reports by Trevor Philpott
This is the power game. Not the battle for boardroom dominance-although that comes into it. Not the struggle for political control-although that is a part of it too. This is the story of the men, the machines, and the organisations which provide Britain's most vital raw materials-fuel and electrical power.
Four giants are in the ring-the National Coal Board, biggest employer of labour in Britain; the oil industry with its empires stretching from Kuwait to Alaska; the Gas Boards with their North Sea bonanza; and nuclear power, now supplying a tenth of our electricity and growing so fast that it may dominate all the rest within half a lifetime. The plans and calculations made by these industries now will affect the prices we pay for everything for the next twenty years. Have they got their sums right?
