Presenters this week, Miranda Connell, Gordon Clyde
Today's story: "The Tin Can Tortoise" by Anna and Edward C. Standon

Turning, churning, spinning, clanking,
Whizzing, whirring, jumping, cranking,
Making cogs and wheels and gears,
That's the work of engineers.
You can see a different kind of machine every day in Play School this week - from one that sorts out rubbish to a contraption for a new game.

There are about 300,000 known diabetics in this country. As well, there are probably another 300,000 people who have the disease in a mild form without knowing it. About half of the known diabetics inject themselves with insulin once or twice a day; but for the discovery of insulin in 1921, many of these people would not be alive today.
In tonight's programme the Consultant Physician discusses the detection and control of this disease with a Specialist and a General Practitioner. As well, some young diabetic patients describe the full and healthy lives they are able to lead today.

A Painter in the Country
John and Paul Nash are two artists whose work is in the forefront of English twentieth-century landscape painting. Starting from a common experience, each developed in his own way. John Nash was drawn to the same countryside that had been made famous by Constable. He has painted there for the last forty years, and in this film the work and the scenes that form his art show a familiar world with a fresh eye.
