Australia have fought back after their defeat in the first Test to recover their form in great style. With the six-match Ashes series at a crucial stage, England will have happy memories of the Test here four years ago, when they had the better of a drawn match and Graham Thorpe scored a century on his Test debut. On that occasion a dogged innings by Steve Waugh helped save Australia from defeat.
