When infra-red cameras were set up in a nest of long-eared owls so that an amateur sound recordist could hear the calls between parents, they revealed behaviour that had never been filmed before. Ornithologist
Bryan Little was amazed by the pictures he saw. "They're magic," he said.
Also included in this, the last programme of the wildlife series, is a report on a hornet rescue service, which includes some stunning close-up shots of the fearsome insects, and film of some very special squirrels in Letchworth. Isolated from the more common grey variety, a colony of black squirrels has developed in the grounds of the hospital.
And finally there are clips from the best films sent in by viewers to the Nature
Detectives/Radio Times competition including footage of the secretive roe deer and foxes hunting in the Scottish highlands, and, of course the winning tape itself. Series producer Paul Appleby
