New series 1/4. The Rev Peter Owen-Jones continues to chart the religious history of the British Isles.
The Church in Danger. The 18th century was a time of great upheaval, with forces old and new poised to attack the established Protestant Church in Britain.
The Catholics threatened religious war, reformist sects began to challenge the Church's comfortable monopoly, and new ideas in science and philosophy questioned the very truth of Christian faith.

5/8. John Cary 's "Inland Navigation" (1796). By the end of the 18th century, canals traversed every part of Britain - and all of them had to be mapped. John Cary 's surveys were comprehensive and geographically precise, but the network they charted has now largely disappeared. So when
Nicholas Crane goes looking for Cary's routes through the Black Country, he's faced with a lot of detective work - not to mention some serious walking.

Having survived a dozen concentration camps during the Second World War, Simon Wiesenthal died a fortnight ago, aged 96. For more than half a century, Wiesenthal doggedly pursued those he believed to be Nazi war criminals, incurring not only their wrath but also the displeasure of many of those from whom he might have expected support. This documentary in the Reputations strand assesses the motivations of the world's most famous Nazi hunter, and asks how he learnt to live with the legacy of the Holocaust.
