Janine di Giovanni reports on the high record of killings by members of the Jamaican police force. Although the police claim the men were killed in a 'shoot-out", witnesses and a forensic pathologist disagree. Were these, and other killings, just unnecessary bloodshed?

The programme includes Verdi's Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, while the pastoral theme is represented by Finzi's The Fall of the Leaf and Constant Lambert's famous Rio Grande.

During the interval, there are visits to Proms in the Park concerts taking place in London's Hyde Park, Liverpool, Gateshead and Cornwall, including music from tenor Jose Carreras and the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Kathryn Tickell on the Northumbrian pipes, and cellist Natalie Clein with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
