Last Night of the Proms

on BBC Two England

Stephanie Hughes introduces the first half of this evening's traditional celebration live from the Royal Albert Hall, with Leonard Slatkin conducting the BBC Symphony Orchestra for the finale of the Proms season. The programme includes Verdi's Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves from Nabucco, while the pastoral theme is represented by Finzi's The Fall of the Leaf and Constant Lambert's famous Rio Grande.

During the interval, there are visits to Proms in the Park concerts taking place in London's Hyde Park, Liverpool, Gateshead and Cornwall, including music from tenor Jose Carreras and the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Kathryn Tickell on the Northumbrian pipes, and cellist Natalie Clein with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
(Also broadcast on Radio 3. The second half of the concert is on BBC1)
