Great Britain v USA
Live coverage of the openingday's singles matches from the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, introduced by Sue Barker.
Tension will be high during the first two singles matches as Great Britain's players begin their bid to win the competition for thefirsttime since 1936. Tim Henman and GregRusedski are likely to provide the inspiration, as they did against India in September, guiding Britain to a 3-2 win and securinga return to the world's top group forthe first time since 1992.
The USA have, however, got an excellent record in Davis Cup tennis, and history suggests they will start as favourites forthis match, having scored 10 wins out of the 17 matches played against Britain. Coverage of the tournament continues tomorrow. Producer Paul Davies
