The first in a sequence of programmes showing in tribute to the enigmatic, maverick film director Stanley Kubrick, who died earlier this month at the age of 70. This documentary, directed by Kubrick's daughter Vivian when she was just 18, is introduced by former Arena series editor Alan Yentob. It observes the exacting methods Kubrick employed as he sought to turn Stephen King's chilling novel The Shining into the memorable 1980 film starring Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall.
