Michael Ignatieff explores the quest for nationhood in Scotland. A history of separatist ambitions, exaggerated in recent years by the frustrations felt at the return of Conservative governments, in spite of Scottish voting habits, has led to deep rooted cynicism and disaffection. Anti-English sentiment is rife and incomers are commonly referred to as White Settlers, with a small band of extremist nationalists, Settler-Watch, attacking property and urging other extreme forms of protest. Series editor Michael Poole
