Teenager Simon Willerton's suicide in 1990 brought to six the number of young prisoners who hanged themselves in British prisons in just over six months. It prompted a public debate over conditions in remand prisons and Armley in particular, where overcrowding had reached such a level that prison officers refused to admit any new inmates.
Simon faced a burglary charge over the theft of a hot-water bottle from an unoccupied flat. Less a hardened criminal than an immature, gawky teenager who never fitted in, Simon's tragic death inspired writer Vincent O'Connell and director Corin Campbell-Hill to tell his story.
Simon is played by Hull teenager, Paul Popplewell, whose credits include theatre versions of Grease and The Rocky Horror Show.

Dutch-born architect Rem
Koolhaas is a neo-modernist who made his reputation with theoretical essays on the secret life of the city. These were Utopian visions that could never be built, but surprisingly he is now one of the hottest properties in architecture with commissions all over the world. To find out why, this Late Show special travels to Rotterdam, Amsterdam and Lille. In Lille, at one of Europe's major hubs where cross-channel traffic branches off to Paris or Brussels, Koolhaas has been appointed master architect for a massive new urban development, a project now under construction by a team of 20 architects under his leadership.
