Pobol y Cwm comes to BBC2 every week from Monday to Thursday. With the aid of English subtitles, BBC2 viewers can follow this Welsh-language soap - joining it nine months behind the current series in Wales - and the Deri Arms could become as famous as the Vic and the Woolpack. "It has a fiercely dedicated following in Wales," says series producer Glenda Jones, "but it doesn't fly the flag of Welshness. The human dramas and humour are universal."
In the first episode, chef Eileen leaves husband Denzil to put their baby twins to bed, while news spreads about head teacher Beth.

Billy Connolly travels to Rome in the first of a six-part series looking at the extraordinary and little-known history of Scottish art. In the 18th century, society gentlemen undertook the Grand Tour, a cultural trip around Europe whereby they completed their education and, in some cases, found artistic inspiration.
Many Scottish artists, among them Allan Ramsay, Henry Raeburn and Gavin Hamilton, made Rome the focus of their journey, immersing themselves in Renaissance art. Meanwhile in Edinburgh, the "Athens of the North", native artists were producing an extraordinary quantity of first-rate work.
