Disabled in Britain - Still at the Sharp End of Discrimination?
For people with disabilities, getting a job means escaping from a lifetime of living on benefits. It's also a vital way of giving them independence and a feeling of self-esteem. But there's widespread evidence that they are frustrated in their hopes of a job by systematic prejudice and discrimination. And they complain that the legal safety nets that should ensure a fair deal are inadequate and fail to be enforced.
Public Eye reveals the extent of the prejudice employers have against people with disabilities and asks: why is tackling this discrimination such a low priority?

The Silk Road with writer Colin Thubron
'As a child I always imagined that the earth had a heart and supposed that it must lie in the core of Asia.' Colin Thubron , the celebrated writer, follows the traveller's old obsession - to find the centre of the earth. He takes the Silk Road from the ancient Chinese capital at Xian along the northern rim of the fearsome Taklamakan desert and into the remote mountains along the border between China and Russia. The Turkomen traders and farmers, whose ancestors made the Silk Road work, are still there, but they are not native Chinese. Holding fast to Islam, these forgotten people are virtually a nation on their own.
