Imagine a land where rain might only fall once in 25 years. Over three quarters of Australia is like that, baked by the sun, scorched by the winds and red as brick. But in the deserts, artesian water is tapped by some plants to sustain life at a low ebb. Every now and again, these arid lands receive a welcome drenching.

Otherwise prolific as a composer, Tchaikovsky wrote remarkably little chamber music. His first string quartet in D major contains the delightful Andante cantabile based on a Russian folk melody. This performance of the work by the world-famous Soviet ensemble was specially recorded at Henry Wood Hall in London.

On 20 January 1942 a high-level meeting was convened by Reinhard Heydrich. It took 14 representatives of the Nazi Party, the SS and government departments less than 90 minutes to agree the one item on the agenda: the extermination of the Jews. This prize-winning dramatisation, made for German television, sets out in chilling detail the events of the fateful Wannsee Conference. The dialogue is based on the notes from that meeting and on documentary evidence derived from the Nuremberg trials and Eichmann's own testimony.

The Buddy Holly Story starring with The 'true' story of one of the greatest and most enduring of America's popular musicians - Buddy Holly - who was killed in a plane crash aged only 22. He had achieved international fame with such songs as Peggy Sue , That'll Be the Day and Well Alright. These and other hits are featured in the movie.
