Twenty years ago this week, British troops were committed to the streets of Northern Ireland to act as policemen, and they've been there ever since. In tonight's special programme, Jonathan Dimbleby traces the events leading up to that decision through to the present day, with comments from Lord Callaghan, Edward Heath, Lord Whitelaw, former GOC Lt General Sir Harry Tuzo and others. In the second part of the programme, a panel of distinguished speakers debate a series of 'what if...?' scenarios for the future of Northern Ireland. Ayrton Senna 's fourth win of the season two weeks ago in Germany has put pressure back on team-mate and World Championship leader Alain Prost. Last year at the Hungaroring Senna beat
Prost by less than a second. Only the Ferraris seem to threaten the McLaren domination and Hungary is not Nigel Mansell 's lucky track. Two years ago a wheel nut flew off and deprived him of victory, and last year he raced suffering from chickenpox! Mansell needs to win here to stand any chance of the championship; perhaps his luck can change. Commentators:

The year 2247: trooper Jack Deth is dismissed from the Angel City police force because of his private war against the 'Trancers', zombie-like followers of the supposedly dead fanatic Martin Whistler. Then he learns that Whistler is alive and has taken refuge, via a time travel drug, in 1985. Whistler plans to change the future by murdering the ancestors of his enemies. Deth must go back in time if he is to stop the menace...
