A series of diverse film documentaries from the North of England.
Tonight: Beyond Jarrow A few miles up the Tyne from Jarrow stands the Metro Centre, the largest out-of-town shopping centre in Europe.
The Metro Centre symbolises for better or worse the new North East. A temple to consumerism, it challenges the region's traditional culture of solidarity and mutual aid.
John Hall , the man who has brought this vision of American enterprise to his native North East, sees it as a rebirth of the region's fortunes. In the plans for his next development. Hall pictures a North East that has marched even further beyond Jarrow.
