Whistle Test extra
Rock musicians in Poland have little chance of gaining access to the West, and Poland seldom features on the tour itinery of Western bands. Yet there is a thriving underground scene there featuring punk, reggae, blues, heavy metal and new wave music. Lyrics have always been dominant in Polish music and never more so than in the protest expressed by today's rock generation.
Each year, in the small town of Jarocin, the biggest rock festival in Eastern Europe takes place. From the outside it seems incredible that such an event could happen there. Whistle Test went to Jarocin and Warsaw to meet some of the people who make up the Polish rock industry. Producer ANDREW COGGINS Director ANDREJ KOSTENKO Executive producer MICHAEL APPLETON
