Four films about people with a passion to possess great art and the money to indulge it. Written and narrated by Harriet Crawley
2: Sir Alfred and Lady Beit On the walls of an 18th-century country house, below the Wicklow hills near
Dublin, hang some of the finest Old Master paintings in private hands. They form the collection of Sir Alfred Beit and include pictures by Rubens, Goya, Velazquez, Murillo, Frans Hals and Gainsborough.
'The letter' by Vermeer is one of only two privately-owned paintings by that artist - the other belongs to HM The Queen. Sir Alfred's uncle started the collection with the proceeds of diamond mining in South Africa. His nephew grew up with great art around him and one of his earliest memories was being asked as a boy to guide visitors around the collection. Film cameraman

The first in a season featuring the popular Hollywood star, also starring Jon Voight Ned Beatty Ronny Cox
Hearing that a dam project is threatening an unspoilt valley, four city men decide to pit their nerve and muscle against the wild waters of a Georgia river in a weekend canoe trip. But their holiday turns into a nightmare when they encounter a sadistic pair of mountain men and the brute force of the river itself. John Boorman 's acclaimed film achieves great heights of dramatic tension and gave Burt Reynolds his first serious role as a man bent on survival against all odds.
