In February this year the BBC attempted to provide the first live pictures of a winter ice climb. For seven days a film crew recorded the efforts of technicians, climbers and Royal Marines, as they struggled in 100mph winds and sub-zero temperatures. Arctic tents were smashed, helicopters iced up in mid-air; five visiting climbers were killed. The project was called off hours from success, but one man went on, French Alpinist Jean Franck Charlet.

Father and daughter O'Neal make an engaging comedy duo and nine-year-old Tatum won an Oscar for her portrayal of the Awful Child in this re-creation of the American Mid-West of the 1930s. Con man Moses Pray takes on more than he bargained for when he offers to deliver an orphan to her aunt in Missouri, as the child soon shows that she can beat him at his own game. Their drive through Kansas is punctuated by a series of hilarious near-disasters.
