The Mysterious Mr Tesla
Some of his most spectacular and hair-raising experiments are recreated by presenter ROBERT SYMES.
In the third of four programmes Dennis Skillicorn visits Cowes, the yachtsman's mecca. Here he meets Harry Spencer who is recognised world-wide as an expert on yacht rigging. Harry's also an expert on the old sailing ships and in his yard at Thetis Wharf he shows Dennis the work that goes into making the wooden masts, spars and blocks for the restoration of such famous ships as Discovery and Great Britain.
A few miles away, at Wotten Creek, Dennis visits Jack White -head and Norman Gaches , two men who have discovered a demand for their skill as wood-carvers in another area of ship restoration, the making of figure-heads.

Whatever its political future, Hong Kong currently enjoys a lively interest in the arts - a meeting place of East and West. Earlier this year 150 members of London's famous Bach Choir, under its conductor Sir David Wilicocks , flew there for an action-packed ten days of rehearsals, concerts and sightseeing. The programme follows their activities both in and out of the concert hall and includes excerpts from Bach's St Matthew Passion, Britten's War Requiem and Berlioz's Grande Messe des Morts. with Sheila Armstrong (soprano) Alfreda Hodgson (contralto) Kenneth Bowen (tenor) Stephen Roberts (bass) and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, leader CARL PINI and members of Hong Kong's local choirs, bands and schoolchildren, a troupe of Chinese dancers and a Chinese orchestra.
