In December 1980, Nick Castle , a 20-year-old dockyard apprentice, was playing rugby for his local club, Bodmin. In a loose maul he suffered one of the most serious injuries a person can sustain and still survive -he broke his neck and severely damaged his spinal cord. As the ambulance carried him away. Nick had to face the fact that he would almost certainly be paralysed from the neck down for the rest of his life. John Walmsley tells the story of Nick's long fight, not only to survive, but to rebuild his life with the help of the girl who vowed she would stand by him whatever the outcome.

Dictatorships flourish in the Third
World and brave men in many countries resist them. José Dlokno is one of them. His dictator is
President Ferdinand E. Marcos and his country is the Philippines.
As a lawyer, a political moderate and former Secretary of Justice.
Diokno regrets seeing a rich and selfish elite monopolising both the power and the potential riches of the Philippines, while the poor, young idealists, and many pries s and nuns of the Roman Catholic church are driven into Opposition, often convinced that political change can only come through violence and the gun barrel.
He is critical of the United States for sustaining in power what he believes to be a repressive regime
-he wants the Philippines to be left alone 'to sing its own song'.
