A series of 11 programmes by Jonathan Miller

'It's much less about medicine than about the whole business of being alive.'
Tonight The Body in Question takes Jonathan Miller to Pans Pompeii and a mortuary in west London. He reveals that, like Doctor Who's telephone box, the human body has a much larger interior than one might suppose by viewing the outside. Heart, liver and kidneys are all much bigger than most people imagine and some vital organs like the pancreas and the spleen are virtually unknown to all but doctors. An adult liver weighs over four pounds, but neither its existence, nor its weight can be felt by its owner.

"The first of Jonathan Miller tele-essays is a kind of dazzling philosophical Cook's tour of the body, bringing together anatomy, psychology, philosophy and simple anthropology into one stimulating package." (Time Out)
